The Alexander Technique with Peter Bloch in Wilmslow, Cheshire

Thursdays, 9.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. in Wilmslow, Cheshire

These classes are an informal continuation of the recently closed Manchester Alexander Teacher Training School (MATTS) and offer:

  • A friendly and supportive environment for teachers

  • CPD hours for new teachers (including the option to attend as a post-graduate student)

  • A traditional training environment for trainee teachers (with the permission of their course director)

  • Experience and preparation for those considering training as a teacher in the future

  • An opportunity for advanced study for enthusiastic pupils

Regular teachers include Peter Bloch (main assistant at MATTS for 5 years from 2002), Malcolm Williamson (the Director of MATTS for 16 years, 2001-2017), Nigel Evans (the main assistant at MATTS for 10 years from 2007),  Liz Hulse and Pauline Lang (regular teachers at MATTS for 13 years), Jane Osgood, Gillian Pierce, Sue Fleming, Annalisa Faenza - and many more. And most weeks we are visited by other senior teachers from this area and from further afield.

The class runs on about 40 weeks each year (see dates below) and we usually number around 20, more than half of whom are qualified teachers. Teachers and pupils are welcome to attend as and when they wish, without notice. Pupils new to these classes are requested to check with me before their first visit.

These classes may form the basis for a revival of the MATTS professional training course for teachers in 2019.

The MATTS Special Celebratory Christmas Party on 14th December was a great success. After meeting in the morning for the class and to catch up with colleagues, 29 of us went for lunch in a sunny private room at Sarafina restaurant in Wilmslow. A lovely meal was followed by a great speech by Julia Woodman reviewing and celebrating 16 years of MATTS, the work of Malcolm Williamson as course director, the help of the other participating teachers, and the many remarkable achievements of the 34 (soon to be 35) graduates.
